Terms & Conditions

The minimum age for a student to begin driver training in Washington State is 15. By signing up for this class, you affirm that you or your student will be at least 15 years of age by the first day of the class selected. Students may not enroll in a course if more than three (3) class sessions have already occurred.

Attendance & Course Completion
- Students are expected to attend all scheduled class sessions.
- A student cannot miss more than three (3) scheduled classes. If more than three are missed, the student will be dismissed from the course.
- If a student notifies Driver’s Edge before the class begins that they cannot attend the session they enrolled in, a credit may be issued for a future class, pending available seats.
- Students have a minimum of 30 days and a maximum of 180 days from the class start date to complete the course.


Extensions & Re-Enrollment
- Students dismissed for three (3) absences or those exceeding the 180-day limit may re-enroll in a subsequent session at a $150 discount from the standard tuition.
- Students who have completed all classroom sessions and passed the written final, but still need to finish driving lessons, may extend their time limit. Each additional driving lesson required under this extension will cost $50 per lesson.

To successfully complete the course, a student must:
- Attend at least 30 hours of classroom instruction.
- Complete at least 6 hours of behind-the-wheel (BTW) instruction.
- Complete at least 1 hour of observation of another student driver.
- Achieve a passing score of 80% or better on the classroom final exam.


Financial Responsibilities
- Tuition for the course is $625.00 (effective November 1, 2024).
- Returned checks will be charged a $25 NSF fee. The balance, including the NSF fee, must be paid in cash within two class sessions or the student will be suspended until corrected.
- Withdrawal requests must be made in writing by email to [email protected]. If a student withdraws prior to the first class session, a full refund will be given. A $50 processing fee will be deducted from refunds.
- Credit card refunds will also incur a $50 deduction.
- No refunds are issued if a student misses more than three (3) scheduled classes.


Driving Phase
- Students must obtain a valid instruction permit before signing up for their first drive and must have their permit by the second week of class.
- Students must bring their permit to each drive. Failure to do so will result in a $45 no-show fee.
- A minimum of 24 hours’ notice is required to cancel a scheduled drive. Less than 24 hours’ notice will result in a $45 no-show fee.
- Students arriving more than 15 minutes late for a drive will be charged the $45 no-show fee.
- Students must wear appropriate footwear (no strapped sandals or flip-flops).

- Students may not attend drives in an intoxicated, drug-impaired, or sleep-deprived condition. Violations may result in dismissal or no-show charges.
- Smoking or vaping in or near the instruction vehicle is prohibited.
- Students who are not able to demonstrate satisfactory driving skills by the end of the sixth scheduled drive may arrange for additional behind-the-wheel drives. Each additional drive beyond the included six (6) will be charged $50 per session.


Behavior Expectations
- Students are expected to follow classroom rules, remain attentive, and avoid disruptive behavior.
- Use of cell phones or other distracting electronic devices during class is prohibited.
- Students and parents/guardians are liable for any vandalism to the classroom location or instruction vehicles.
- Students found cheating, disruptive, or under the influence of drugs/alcohol may be dismissed without a refund.
- Smoking or vaping is prohibited within 200 feet of the school location.


Licensing Requirements (Washington State)
To obtain a driver’s license under the age of 18 in Washington State, a student must:
- Be at least 16 years of age.
- Hold an instruction permit for at least six (6) months.
- Complete at least 50 hours of supervised driving practice, including 10 hours at night.
- Successfully complete a state-approved Traffic Safety Education course.
- Pass the Knowledge Test based on the Washington Driver Guide.
- Pass the Driving Skills Test.


Intermediate Driver License (IDL) Restrictions:
- First 6 months: no passengers under 20 years of age (except immediate family).
- Next 6 months: no more than 3 passengers under 20 years of age (except immediate family).
- For the first 12 months: no driving between 1:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. unless accompanied by a licensed driver age 25+ or while working in an agricultural job under a farmer’s direction.

Penalties for IDL Violations:
- 1st offense: Warning letter.
- 2nd offense: 6-month suspension (or until age 18, whichever comes first).
- 3rd offense: Suspension until age 18.
